Week 8 Process Journal (final week)

This week I basically perfected the parts of the video that I didn’t quite think were good and I performed the final touches on the video. The video was completely finished by Tuesday, which gave me the remaining time to evaluate on the overall project. This was the last week of the project.

Week 7 Process Journal

We had to film another outsourced video for Jasmin this week. Since Mohammed was absent during our IT class, I had to film it with the help of two of my classmates Dillon and Matilde. We used another camera and managed to deliver to Jasmin what she wanted. I finished working on my actual video this week and worked through the weekend in order to get the audio narration and royalty free music to fit with each part of my video.

Week 6 Process Journal

I started working on my actual video this week. I planned out the order of each event that I was going to include/explain in the video and began working on it using the program called Windows Movie Maker. I also worked with Mohammed Al-Suwaidi in order to create an outsourced video for Jasmin B in the Australian school. Her request was to film a 20 second clip of two people talking on webcam and we began doing this by using skype. However, unfortunately due to several technical difficulties with the computer not recognizing the footage from that particular camera, the video did not seem to import. This caused a delay in our delivery of the outsourced video to her and we informed her through the ning. However I was successful with my own video during this week as I got about half of it done.

Week 5 Process Journal

No work was done during this week due to the interruption by the week without walls.

Week 4 Process Journal

This week was supposed to be when I complete my design. However, when I started on it I realized that it would take much less time than the time that I had originally predicted. This meant that I could complete my design and my plan both in this week. I completed both within the week, which put me in a straight forward direction for my video and made it much easier to work with. During this week, we also had the dean of the Northwestern University in Doha come in and talk to us about the concept of citizen Journalism and how it is commonly used. We got the chance to ask him questions at the end and I think that this was a very good opportunity.

Week three process Journal

I started my Investigation this week. I researched the definitions of Social Entrepreneurship and Citizen Journalism in order to get a better understanding of what I will be doing. I then used the design brief and design specification in order to plan basically what my video is going to be about and what I will need to include, and what it should and shouldn’t have. I also made a questionnaire which I will be handing out to people about the success of my video after the create stage. It took me exactly one week to complete my investigation.

Week two Process Journal

This week we looked at the team lists and which topic and sub-topic we would be working with. I discovered that I will be making a video on Social Entrepreneurship and my sub-topic is connecting the world online. I found out that I had two group members, one from the Australian school, and one from the American school. I became friends with them on the project ning and contacted them in order to discover what they were doing and in order to work together on our team page on the flat classroom page. Mrs. Lindsay also came in to talk to us and give us a better understanding of what this whole project was about. This was really helpful in my opinion as I completely got my head around what was expected and what I wanted to do after her talk.

Week 1 process Journal

This week was a week of getting introduced to the flat classroom and Tom Friedman’s idea of the flat world and what he means by all of that. We watched part of his lecture online and read summaries on some of his chapters written in his book “The World is Flat”. This gave us an introduction on what the flat classroom project was about and what we were going to be doing. We also got help from Mr. Jones who told us what will be expected of us. We also created accounts on the blogger and on the flat classroom ning. We got told that we were to keep track of what we did every week by posting a weekly blog on our blogger. The ning will be used for getting into contact with group members, and posting things such as videos, and messages. It is the social networking site for the flat classroom project where we can look at all members and see what everyone is doing.

Blog #2- Thomas Friedman's Video

In Thomas Friedman's video of his lecture given in MIT, he discusses and summarizes the main points of his book "The World is Flat". He skims through what he believes are the "ten flatteners of the world" and he begins by explaining that the world is developing too fast for the economic, governmental, and political sectors to keep up. He talks about what brought him to write this book, which as he says, happened after his several trips to a variety of places around the world. After interviewing different people during his journey, he came across one Indian man who said something that was never forgotten by Friedman: "the world is being leveled". This struck Friedman and made him come to realize how quickly the world was developing, and altogether this inspired him into writing his book "The world is flat". In this video, Friedman discusses several aspects of the IT revolution such as globalization and outsourcing.
